More people left the Catholic Church last year than ever before.
The latest figures show 34,600 quit – that’s 300 more than the previous record figure which was set in 2021.
While the recent sexual abuse scandals surrounding the Catholic faith could explain many turning their backs on the church – the figures also show a similar number left the Protestant Reformed Church last year.
The numbers have been compiled by the Swiss Pastoral Institute and the Federal Statistics Office.
