Thousands demand lifting of restrictions

Nearly 300,000 people have signed a petition calling on the government to change tack on its coronavirus restrictions and open bars and restaurants immediately.

Campaigners say the focus should be on those most at risk – and they should be shielded.

There have also been several cantonal petitions calling for an end to various restrictions, such as mask wearing and shop openings.

The main political force behind the campaign is coming from the Swiss People’s Party.

They stress they’re not denying the existence of virus, but they believe as the vaccine is rolled out  businesses should be allowed to reopen.
