Switzerland 'must' allow re-export of ammunition

Germany is pressuring Switzerland to allow the re-export of Swiss made ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft tanks that the Germans have sent to Ukraine to protect grain exports.

Under neutrality laws, any Swiss made armaments sold abroad can’t be exported again without permission.

Switzerland already rejected calls to allow the re-export of ammunition in April and it’s turned down a request from Denmark to send 22 Swiss made infantry vehicles to Ukraine.

The German defence minister, Christine Lambrecht says this country must ‘absolutely’ allow the re-export of ammunition.

A spokesman for the government says the German request will be responded to promptly.
