Switzerland may bring in a transit fee for those who solely pass through the country.
It seems likely parliament will order the transport minister Albert Rösti to bring in such a fee.
How it will work is unknown as yet. Rösti himself has expressed scepticism. He says it will be highly complex – and expensive - as all vehicles entering and leaving the country will have to be monitored.
The parliamentary motion suggests the fee, whatever it is, will vary depending on traffic levels as the aim will be to reduce peak traffic.
