The Swiss women’s football team qualified for the World Cup in the last few seconds last night against Wales.
Playing at the Letzigrund in Zurich the match was full of heart stopping moments. Switzerland had a rebounded penalty disallowed as the ball didn’t touch another player.
With the score at 1-all in the dying minutes of extra time, Eintracht Frankfurt player, Géraldine Reuteler, launched an attack along the left flank, crossed to a substitute defender, Fabienne Humm, who found the net.
The last-minute goal secures Switzerland a place in the tournament in Australia and New Zealand next year.
It also sinks the Welsh hopes.
