The president Ignazio Cassis is in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.
It’s reported he travelled by train from Poland last night.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs says he plans to stay in the city for 24 hours.
He has meetings with several high-level government officials - but it’s not confirmed if he’ll be meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart – Volodymyr Zelensky.
