Bed bugs are making headlines in France and now the UK, but they are also here in Switzerland - but the problem is being hushed up.
That’s the conclusion of an exterminator speaking anonymously to the NZZ newspaper over the weekend.
He says the problem is huge, but people don’t want to talk about it as they believe it makes them seem unhygienic.
But the exterminator says, it’s not a matter of cleanliness. He says the problem could strike a 5-star hotel just as much as a simple apartment.
Tourists are most likely to bring in the critters – the exterminator says Interlaken in canton Bern is particularly badly hit at the moment.
Bed bugs were rare only a few years ago, but recently have made a comeback. Many blame rising temperatures.
