Successful Lausanne Marathon despite weather conditions

Rain and wind did little to dampen the 33rd Lausanne Marathon, which drew more than 15,500 registered runners yesterday

Participants travelled from as far as Paris to take part across the event's five races.

Claudia Knecht of Silvaplana won the women's half marathon for the third time, then waited patiently in the downpour for a friend to cross the finish line.

The event is Vaud's largest annual running event, with supporters lining the lakeside route armed with umbrellas and placards.
