Four soldiers are still in hospital after a gruelling selection test to join an elite unit.

The young recruits collapsed during a tough selection run in hot weather at the Isone training school in Ticino.

One of them was temporarily placed in an artificial coma.

The other three remain in hospital but are expected to recover soon.

An army spokesperson stressed that the exercise followed regulations and that food and water were available along the route.

But the army says it will move future tests to cooler parts of the day and is investigating the incident internally.
