Despite drought and forest fires in canton Ticino, the federal government has issued a weather warning for the Alps, which is expecting heavy snow.
The forecasters Meteonews says a cold front is passing over the country and bringing snow in the mountains and rain on the lower ground.
There’ll also be strong winds. Speeds of over 100 kph are possible in the mountains.
Up to 50 cm of snow is expected in the Oberland and northern Graubünden, but most of the snow will stay on the mountains.
Forecasters say the avalanche risk will also increase.
