Snow derails train - injures 5

Derailed train at Goppenstein (c) Kapo VS

A train derailed near Goppenstein in canton Valais after an avalanche swept across the line yesterday morning.

Five people were injured, one of them was taken to hospital in Sion, while the others were treated at the scene. 29 were on the train in total.

Police are urging the public to stay away because of a high avalanche risk.

Initial findings suggest an avalanche buried the tracks just before the train arrived.
