The government says it will start to modernise and renovate many nuclear shelters around the country.
It says the driving force is the deteriorating global situation.
The cost will be around CHF 200m.
Many command and control units will be upgraded as well as the public shelters. They’re under a separate budget.
Currently the government spends CHF 9m a year to keep those running. That will increase to CHF 15m.
The proposals are open for consultation until February.
