Several cantons urge all Covid rules to end

Several cantons are urging the complete end to Covid restrictions later this month. The Federal Council says it would decide on the next stage on the 17th of this month.

Cantons Bern, Fribourg and Solothurn all say the restrictions should end – except wearing masks in some instances, such as public transport.

Cantons in the French speaking regions say they will announce their recommendations later today.

The government says they will be announcing one of two possible strategies on the 17th. Option one is the complete end to restrictions – but option 2, which is seen as a bit more likely, is the removal of rules in stages.

The National Council’s health commission is also urging caution and says there should be staggered lifting and masks should still be used in many instances.
