School evacuated after toilet fire

More than 200 teenagers had to evacuate their Geneva school yesterday morning due to a fire – the second one this academic year.

The students at the Ella-Maillart School of General Culture in the middle of town stood on the street while staff tackled the blaze. The cause was paper burning in one of the toilets. The school staff had managed to bring the fire under control before the city’s firefighting teams arrived.

No one was injured, but four students were checked by paramedics.

Police are now investigating the cause of the fire. There was a similar incident at the same school in November.
