Scabies in Geneva care homes

The parasitic infection scabies is spreading in Geneva’s care home system.

Swiss French television is reporting five residents in one home are being treated.

Scabies, which is caused by a parasite burying under the skin, produces rashes and itching.

While there are sporadic cases in Geneva, last year was particularly bad – with 182 being diagnosed. 

It’s treated by the drug, Ivermectin, two doses taken 10 days apart will kill the parasites.

It’s spread by close skin to skin contact.
