The Salève cable car has been shut down indefinitely after around fifteen caravans set up camp on the parking lot at the base station on Sunday
The lift, just across the border from Geneva at Étrembières, is a favourite short trip for Genevans heading up the mountain on a summer day.
Management confirmed the closure on Monday morning, with only the descent still operating for people already on the summit.
A motorway agent has been called in to shut off the fire hydrant on the neighbouring rest area. There is no timeline yet for when the lift will reopen.
