Rock star landmark anniversary this week

Freddie Mercury would have turned 80 this Friday, and his statue still watches over Lake Geneva from Montreux

The Queen frontman died in November 1991 at the age of 45, but the bronze at the foot of Place du Marché has been one of Montreux's most photographed landmarks since it was unveiled in 1996.

From the recording sessions at the old Mountain Studios to the yearly pilgrimage of fans in early September, Montreux remains one of the places where his legacy is loudest.
