Progress on Lausanne tramway

Switzerland's Federal Office of Transport has approved the second phase of the Lausanne tramway, clearing the way for a 3.1-kilometre northern extension from Renens to Villars-Sainte-Croix

Construction could start in 2027 and run for around four years, subject to any appeals.

The new stretch will add six stations, connect Renens station to the Villars-Sainte-Croix industrial zone in eleven minutes, and put the Lausanne-Flon terminus 26 minutes away.

The project is costed at CHF 290.5 million, with the canton covering 62%, the Confederation 25% and the four communes involved 8%.

The first phase, between Renens and Lausanne-Flon, is due to open at the end of this year
