There could be a new dam built on the Rhône.
The Geneva Grand Council has voted in favour of spending over a million francs on a feasibility study.
The dam would be on the river at Chancy, right on the border with France.
The cost of the dam would be CHF 250m.
But detractors say it wouldn’t generate that much electricity and also threatens local wetlands used by rare bird species.
The dam would need the go ahead from Bern and Paris.
