The SVP and the PLR are pushing to expand Switzerland's F-35 order from thirty to thirty-six aircraft, at an added cost of CHF 650 million
Their goal is to lift the aviation credit before parliament from CHF 394 million to CHF 1.044 billion — a full fighter fleet.
The Centre remains sceptical, with the army's overall financing still not fully secured.
A recent US report also warns that F-35 unit costs could rise from 2027, partly due to a new software integration.
Switzerland has to confirm its order with Washington by early 2027.
