The notoriously high cost of child care in Switzerland is being tackled in Bern. The National Education Commission has put a bill into consultation which would require the Confederation to pay up to 20% of the costs.
The consultation will last until September.
The federal money will be added to the contributions from the cantons and communes.
Switzerland ranks badly against many other European countries for affordable childcare with parents paying a higher proportion of wages towards care than any other country.
