Jura police are warning young adults about a car-leasing scam that could leave them facing heavy financial and criminal consequences
Four cases have now been reported in the canton, where people are approached and asked to sign leasing contracts in their own name for vehicles that are then handed to third parties.
The cars often leave Switzerland quickly and can end up used in crimes, seized, or disappearing altogether, but the signatory remains officially liable for the contract and any fines.
Cantonal police say their investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone approached with such an offer to refuse.
