The Association of Swiss Police Officers has strongly condemned the violent riots during Saturday’s unauthorized demonstration in Bern.
In a statement yesterday afternoon, the association called the attacks on police “an unacceptable assault on the rule of law.”
Eighteen officers were injured - some seriously - after being hit with bottles and fireworks.
Over 500 protesters were detained, though many have since been released.
The police union is demanding tougher penalties for violent demonstrators, warning that releasing offenders without consequences sends the wrong message.
