Caspar Coppetti, co-founder and now co-CEO of Swiss sportswear company On, has sparked discussion after saying “the week has 80 working hours” when asked about his workload.
The comment has drawn criticism from psychologists, who warn it could pressure employees and encourage unhealthy expectations.
They say research shows productivity falls with very long working weeks and health risks increase, including stress and burnout.
On downplayed the remark, calling it a “humorous exaggeration” made in conversation, and stressed that staff can choose flexible working hours and holidays.
The company says most employees report high satisfaction with their work–life balance.
