It's an old scam, but it remains a favorite.
Thieves are posing as electricity workers to get into homes in north-west Switzerland.
In the Basel region, scammers are ringing doorbells, claiming to work for Elektra Baselland and asking to check meters - but once inside, they steal valuables.
The electricity company stresses its staff always carry clear ID, never ask for cash, and never pressure residents.
Police are also warning of similar fake tradesmen in Aargau.
Authorities say - if in doubt, don’t open the door – and call the police.
