Residents in many areas of the country enjoyed a spectacular view of the northern lights.
They were particularly visible in the north east.
The light show was triggered by the biggest solar storm for the last 20 years, according to MétéoSuisse. The effect is caused by coronal mass ejections when the particles form the sun hit the Earth’s magnetic field.
Pictures have been flooding social media and the press. The show is expected to continue for the next few days.
