New tenants told they don't need to pay outgoers

A Zurich letting agent is warning that it’s not legal for tenants who are leaving a premises to demand payment from the incoming residents.

Finding an apartment in cities can be hard at the moment. One family in Zurich were told that before they could mover in, they had to buy all the furniture off the previous tenants and pay for some renovations. 

If they didn’t, they wouldn’t give the new tenants the application form. 

In all the cost would have been around CHF 5,000. 

The landlord stressed that’s illegal.
