There are plans for a major solar power plant in canton Valais.

It will be at an altitude of 2,800 meters and close to the Grande Dixence dam – which is one of the biggest in the world.

The solar panels will be placed in an old quarry where the rock for the dam came from during its construction in the 1950s.

It’s expected the new power plant will generate enough electricity for 11,000 homes.

Construction should start in 2025.
