New covid variant being monitored

Health authorities are on alert for a new covid variant which could cause a spring outbreak.

At the beginning of the year, a strain called Juno did trigger more infections – but now a new variant, called ‘FLiRT’ could prove to be more resilient.

The Federal Health Office says ‘FLiRT’ has not yet been detected in this country, but is on the rise in the United States. Experts are worried it can cause a new wave.

It’s difficult to predict what impact the new variant could have, but authorities say they’re monitoring the situation carefully.
