Parcel thefts are becoming a major problem – and a parliamentarian is pushing to bring in a solution.
Barbara Schaffner from the Green Liberals put forward the idea that the legal requirement on the so called ‘milk boxes’ attached to mailboxes be ditched, which would create more space in apartment building lobbies to have lockable boxes.
Schaffner put the idea to the Federal Council earlier, but it rejected the plan. So now she’s put a motion in parliament.
It has the backing of all parties, apart the Swiss People’s Party.
It’s already happening in some areas. Swiss Life Insurance, which manages several buildings, is already installing lockable parcel boxes.
