Electricity from renewable sources is gaining ground in Geneva. It rose by 7% last year and now covers 37% of the canton’s total electricity consumption, according to figures released from the Canton and the Geneva Industrial Services.
Hydropower remains dominant, supplying more than 80% of local production through the Verbois, Chancy-Pougny, and Seujet dams.
The rest comes from solar panels and waste incineration. The utility company notes the smaller growth compared to 2023 is mainly due to lower rainfall and snowmelt.
