A growing number of people in Switzerland are turning away from traditional news, and that’s bad news for democracy, says a new study from the University of Zurich.
Nearly half the population is now considered “information deprived,” meaning they consume little or no journalism, relying mainly on social media.
Researchers warn this group shows lower political knowledge and less trust in both politics and the media.
The study also highlights artificial intelligence as a double-edged sword, it can be helpful for journalists, but also draws audiences away from trusted news sources.
