The Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed to traffic from September 1st to December 12th.
Officials say the shutdown is unavoidable, as detection systems, fans and other equipment must be dismantled, making traffic impossible.
The closure was agreed by French and Italian authorities for safety reasons.
During the 15-week period, heavy goods vehicles will be diverted to the Fréjus Tunnel, while cars will need to use alternative Alpine routes such as the Grand St. Bernard Pass.
