A major study by the Vaud University Hospital in Lausanne has been studying the effectiveness of the two main vaccines issued in Switzerland – Moderna and Pfizer - and has come up with some surprising results.
The Moderna vaccine is far more effective against the pre-Omicron variants than Pfizer.
The results could influence future vaccine strategies.
Researchers say the Moderna jab produces far more neutralizing antibodies that are far more durable over time. They last about three months longer than Pfizer – meaning the Moderna vaccine is three times more powerful.
The study hasn’t examined the results of the Omicron specific vaccines. Those figures are due in a few weeks.
