Massive heatwave coming

We’re set to have a punishing heatwave this week, with temperatures forecast to reach 38 degrees in some areas.

MeteoSwiss says the mercury will rise from today, with peak heat expected on Sunday and Monday across much of the country.

The June record of 36.9, set in Basel back in 1947, could fall this week, with records also under threat at Zurich Airport and in Lugano.

From tomorrow, isolated thunderstorms are expected in the Alps, with heavier showers across the north on Friday afternoon.

We’re being urged to take precautions as the heat builds toward the weekend.
