We’re heading for an extreme heatwave this week, with meteorologists warning temperatures could climb above 40.
After a cooler few days and scattered weekend storms, a stable high-pressure ridge will settle over the country from tomorrow, drying and warming the air.
Forecasters expect readings above 35 by Thursday, with 40-plus possible by the end of the week.
That would approach the national record of 41.5 degrees, set at Grono in Graubünden during the 2003 heatwave.
