The queue at the Gotthard road tunnel stretched back ten kilometres yesterday morning, meaning a wait of one hour and forty minutes for drivers heading south.

Saturday saw peaks of twenty kilometres at the north portal.

Locals in the affected cantonal Uri villages are fed up.

In Amsteg on Saturday, about sixty residents marched single file across a pedestrian crossing, blocking traffic with Uri flags and signs reading "we've had enough".
