Lightning killed 97 blacknose sheep in the Binn valley in Valais during last week’s storms.
Around 80 animals from the same herd survived. The blacknose, with its distinctive dark face and curled horns, is one of Switzerland's most iconic native breeds and a symbol of Upper Valais.
The loss is a heavy blow for the alpine farming families who summer their flocks in the valley.
