The government says it would like to see electrical products labelled in such a way that consumers will be able to judge lifespan and ease of repair.
The government says that over the past few decades, the life span of products has become shorter. It points out that's not good for the environment or our tendency to over consume.
However, the government knows such a labelling system must also take into account EU rules and it plans to enter into a dialogue with Brussels.
It believes more information will mean consumers will be able to make a better choice for themselves and the planet.
