Lake Zurich at record low

Lake Zurich is at its lowest level ever recorded, 22 centimetres below the previous 1952 low

A 400-tonne floating pier is now resting on old wooden pilings that could pierce it and sink the structure.

The drought has also suspended lake cruises and halted navigation on the Limmat.

A sandbank has emerged where a "ghost island" last appeared in 1909.
