Jura rejects more rules for taxis

Jura's parliament has voted down a motion demanding tighter rules for ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Bolt

By 38 votes to 21, MPs rejected Socialist deputy Jelica Aubry-Janketic's call for a mechanism ensuring fair competition between the platforms and traditional taxis.

The motion had asked for some form of price regulation to prevent tariff dumping, along with stricter enforcement of minimum-wage and social-insurance rules.

Uber has only recently started operating in the canton.

The rejection leaves Jura taxi drivers facing the same competitive pressure their colleagues elsewhere in Switzerland have already been navigating for several years.
