Judges decide not to punish underage relationship

A judge has decided not to punish a 19-year-old who was dating a girl just under 15 years old.

The man stopped contacting the girl when her father told him her age.

While it’s uncertain the relationship didn’t go further than kissing and some petting, the 19-year-old found himself in court charged with sexual offences against a minor.

Prosecutors were demanding jail time and a life-time ban on working with children. His defence team pleaded with the judges to show common sense.

The defence told the court that this was simply a case of two teenagers in love – and if the girl had been a little older, there wouldn’t be a problem.

Judges at the Andelfingen court in canton Zurich found the man guilty – but didn’t sentence him, citing mitigating circumstances.

But the man is liable for court costs, which are being estimated at CHF 22,000.
