According to “Swiss Sport 2020”, only 18 percent of low-income households go skiing, compared with more than half of high-income households.
In French-speaking lowland regions, the gap is even wider.
Sports historian Gregory Quin told the Tribune de Genève skiing is the sport most influenced by money - even more than golf.
Maria, 30, grew up in Lausanne and never skied. She says she only realized as a teenager that she was the one being excluded.
Despite this, skiing remains a national symbol - but climate change and rising costs are making access even harder for many.
