Is a Trump deal close?

The financial news service Bloomberg says that Switzerland is in the verge of a new trade deal with the United States.

It says an agreement of a 15% tariff is on the cards – down from the current 39%.

Talks have been going on behind the scenes ever since a group of Swiss business leaders met Trump in the Oval Office, leaving behind gifts of a Rolex watch and an engraved gold bar.

But commentators warn nothing is signed yet and talks could collapse.

Hopes seem to be high as the government confirms Federal Councillor, Guy Parmelin, is on the way to Washington. The press is reporting a private government jet took off from Bern airport on route to the United States.
