Infections up - Geneva hit hardest

Geneva currently has the highest infection rate in the country. The canton is running at an average of 401 infections per 100,000. The national average is 265.

The best performing canton is Uri, with 166.

Across the country, the Federal Health Office says there have been 3,150 new infections, 62 have been hospitalized and 2 have died.

While the infection numbers are going in the wrong direction, as the head of the crisis section of the Federal Health Office, Patrick Mathys, admits, he is reassured at the low level of deaths compared to previous waves.

All the experts agree that’s down to half the population now being fully vaccinated. But that’s still not enough to make a significant impact on the spread.

The new infections are now mainly affecting the younger – and healthier – section of the population. A new campaign is being launched to persuade younger people to get jabbed.
