No-shows are becoming an increasing problem for Zurich’s restaurant industry.
Mike Gut, who runs the popular Razzia in Seefeld, says up to ten percent of guests with reservations regularly fail to turn up - sometimes far more.
On one recent evening, a third of booked diners did not appear, many also didn’t show up for this year’s Valentine’s Day
With 110 seats, Gut told the Blick newspaper that those missing guests can mean the difference between profit and breaking even.
Overbooking is risky, so the restaurant will now introduce a blanket no-show fee of CHF 50 per person for online reservations.
