Hundreds of osteopaths to lose licence

Hundreds of osteopaths in Switzerland will be out of work by the end of the week as new rules mean the vast majority will no longer have their qualifications recognised.

Anyone who wants to practice as an osteopath will need either a degree in the subject from a Swiss university – or take further studies to upgrade what is normally a foreign qualification.

But that path is not open to everyone. Only qualifications recognised by the Swiss Red Cross can be upgraded to the new requirements.

It’s thought between 800 and 1,000 osteopaths will have to close their practice on Friday, the end of the month.

Although it should not be a surprise – the new rules were agreed five years ago.
