Swissmedic has provisionally approved the extended use of Gardasil 9 to prevent throat, head and neck cancers, which increasingly affect men.
Around 1,500 head and neck cancer diagnoses are made in Switzerland each year, most of them in men.
Uptake among young people is already rising — 70% of women and 57% of men have received two doses by age 16, according to the Federal Office of Public Health.
