Heatwave ends suddenly

The heatwave has ended with a crash – and the sudden change in temperature is unprecedented, according to Météosuisse.

Although the temperatures are now close to a seasonal norm, the transition has surprised forecasters.

The fall of around 20 degrees could be expected over a week, but it’s taken one weekend.

Heavy rain is falling in the mountains and the snow line is down at 2,000 meters.

The rain is expected to last until tomorrow, especially in the central and eastern areas of the country and canton Ticino.

The government is warning there is a chance of flooding and landslides in those areas.
