Swiss homeowners are returning to oil and gas heating and turning away from heat pumps, discouraged by the rise in electricity prices.
12% more oil and gas heating systems were installed between January and September this year than the same period in 2023. And sales of new heat pumps are down.
These are figures from the building technology association, ImmoClimat.
The trend is reversing as the price of hydrocarbons are falling, but electricity is rising.
But heat pumps are still being installed as many cantons ban the use of fossil fuels for heating new or renovated buildings – canton Valais joins that list next month.
